India’s Highest Meteorological Center Established in Ladakh

India has set up its highest meteorological center in Ladakh. The center was inaugurated by Union Minister of Earth Science Dr Harsh Vardhan.

 

About Meteorological center in Ladakh

The new center is set up at height of 3500 meters. It is the first center to be established in Ladakh. It will serve three kinds of weather forecasts i.e Short (3 days), medium (12 days) and long (1 month) range.

Major services of meteorological center in Ladakh:

  • Weather forecasts for Kargil and Leh.
  • Forecast for agriculture, mountaineering, trekking, flash flood warning, highway forecast, and information low and high temperatures.

 

Government Lifts Ban on Onion Export

Government of India has lifted the ban on export of Onion recently. Now all types of onions can be exported to anywhere in the world. Earlier in September month of 2020, GOI decided to apply ban on onion export.

 

Why Onion Ban was applied:- Price of onion was rising. So government took decision to ban the export. Removal of onion from the list of essential commodities was also the reason behind ban.

 

India’s 1st Indigenous Pneumonia Vaccine Launched

India has developed its first indigenous Pneumonia vaccine. The vaccine was launched by Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan. Name of the vaccine is Pneumosil. It is developed by by Pune-based Serum Institute of India (SII) in collaboration with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and PATH.

 

The newly developed Indian vaccine for pneumonia is cheaper as compared to currently used vaccine for the treatment of Pneumonia.

 

BWF bans Russian badminton player Nikita Khakimov for 5 years

Russian Badminton player Nikita Khakimov has been banned for five years by Badminton World Federation (BWF). He was found involved in betting, wagering and irregular match results. The player was found approaching a player and offering money to manipulate a match, betting on badminton games and deliberately destroying evidence of a corruption offence to conceal from the BWF.

Five Eyes network Becomes Six Eye after Japan Joins

Japan has recently joined the Five Eyes network. The network has five member countries Australia, Canada, Britain, US and New Zealand. The network became six eye network after joined by Japan.

What is the Network?

The network is collaboration of countries against the increasing threats by China and North Korea.

Anshu Malik wins silver at Individual Wrestling World Cup in Serbia

Indian wrestler Anshu Malik has won silver medal at Individual Wrestling World Cup in Belgrade, Serbia. With this win she has became the first Indian to claim first international medal of the tournament for the country. She won the medal in 57 Kg weight category. She missed Gold as she lost in the final match from Moldova’s Anastasia Nichita with a margin of 5-1. The 19 years old wrestler is from Jind district of Haryana.

 Myanmar Navy inducted the submarine INS Sindhuvir

Recently Indian Navy had handed over submarine INS Sindhuvir to Myanmar Navy in October 2020. The same has now been officially inducted by Myanmar Navy. The submarine is renamed as UMS Minye Theinkhathu by the Myanmar Navy.

India-Vietnamese Navy conducts PASSEX-2020

Navies of India and Vietnam took part in naval passage exercise PASSEX in the South China Sea.  It was a two days exercise that aimed to boost maritime cooperation between the two countries. Indian navy Ship INS Kiltan took part in the exercise.

United Nations celebrated International Day of Epidemic Preparedness on December 27, 2020. It is about to make easy exchange of information, transmission of scientific knowledge and exchange best practices regionally, locally, and internationally to overcome the pandemic

US introduced new rules in Drone

Federal Aviation Administration of the United States has issued new rules regarding use of drones in the country. Newly issued guidelines will ease restrictions on the use of drones. This will result in increase of drone usage in the country.

 

One can fly a drone weighing not more than 0.25 kilograms without registration. But, drone with weight more than 0.25 kg need to be registered. Minimum height of flying drone without authorization is 120 metres. But drone pilot license is required to demonstrate the ability of safely flying unmanned aircraft. National common Mobility Card Launched by PM

Narendra Modi on 28 December, 2020 launched National common Mobility Card (NCMC). The card can be used as multipurpose for payments such as travel, shopping and even to withdraw cash.

Assam Repealing Bill, 2020

Government of Assam has introduced a new bill related to state run madarsaas. As per Assam Repealing Bill, 2020, all state run madarsaas will be abolished and will be converted into schools. This will be implemented on April1, 2021. All other rules such as payment, allowances, teaching and non teaching staff will remain as it is. After implementation about 610 madarsaas will be changed to schools.
