Central Government approves Rs 2900 crore to make cities safer for women

Women and Child Development Ministry approved Rs 2900 crore to make cities more safer for women. Center government has selected eight major cities to make them safer. These cities are: Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Lucknow. The fund is approved under Nirbhaya fund.


Vinesh Phogat bags silver at Asian Wrestling Championships

Indian woman wrestler Vinesh Phogat got silver at Asian Wrestling Championships in 50kg category (freestyle). Phogat lost her final match against Chinese wrestler Chun Lei by 3-2 margin. She gave a tough fight to Chinese wrestler in the final played at Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan on Thursday.


IOC Restored Russia’s Olympic Membership

You will see Russia again taking part in Olympic games as International Olympic Committee (IOC) has restored the country’s membership with immediate effect. Russia was facing Olympic Suspension since Winter Olympics at Pyeongchang in South Korea due to doping allegations. Before closing ceremony of Winter Olympics, the IOC had stated that the ban would be lifted, as long as there were no more anti-doping violations.


SBI hikes key one-year lending rate to 8.15%; PNB, ICICI Also

India’s largest public sector bank State Bank of India (SBI) has increased one-year marginal cost of funds based lending rate (MCLR). As per the hike SBI new MCLR is 8.15 per cent which is 20 basis points more as compared to earlier 7.95 per cent. SBI new rate will be applicable from immediate effect.

In a similar decision like this, two banks PNB (Punjab National Bank) and private sector lender ICICI Bank have also increased their MCLR for one year. PNB hiked one-year MCLR to 8.3 per cent. Earlier it was 8.15 per cent. ICICI bank raised MCLR from earlier 8.2 per cent to 8.3.


Tamil Nadu launches 24 hour helpline for students

To deal with students issues like stress during exams among students and others, Tamil Nadu state government has came up with students helpline which will be working for 24 hours in state.
