NRCB, Andhra Pradesh Govt signs Agreement

The National Research Centre for Banana (NRCB) and Andhra Pradesh govt signed a memorandum of cooperation in the implementing technology for improving Banana production in the state. NRCB under the agreement will serve as knowledge partner for state government in technologies developments relating to production of fruit banana.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Andhra pradesh Chief Minister N.Chandrababu Naidu by S.Uma, Director, NRCB and M.Girija Shankar, Secretary to Government, Industries and Commerce Department.

How NRCB and Andhra Pradesh govt will work?

NRCB is an Indian Council of Agricultural Research’s institution and it will be serving to State government as knowledge partner for developing technologies towards:

  • Value chain management
  • Supporting banana export
  • Organic production
  • Waste utilisation

The institution will also provide trainings, human resource development, hand hold growers and entrepreneurs to promote indigenous and commercial varieties for domestic and export markets.

Andhra Pradesh is the main producer of several crops including banana. The post gather losses being 25-35%, exceptional impetus was given to food processing industry. The Andhra Pradesh government had drawn out a Food Processing Policy and had looked for R&D support from selected institutes in the nation and ICAR-NRCB was one among them.
