Himachal Pradesh: Cabinet approved establishment of AIIMS in Bilaspur

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led cabinet approved establishment of AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh. New AIIMS hospital at Bilaspur will be build under the center’s Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana. This is the second branch of India’s premier medical institute. The construction and set up of hospital will be completed within two years.

New AIIMS hospital in Himachal Pradesh will be build at a cost of Rs 1,351 crore. The medical college will admit 100 MBBS students each year and nursing college department of it will enrol 60 B.Sc (Nursing) students.

As per the government, this new AIIMS hospital to be constructed in Bilaspur will be very helpful in providing large number of doctors as well as other health workers to the Himachal Pradesh region. These doctors will be serving primary and secondary level institutions and also in under National Health Mission.

Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana

Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) is a center government’s scheme to provide affordable/ reliable tertiary healthcare services to people and also to quality medical education in the country. PMSSY was established in year 2003. It has two main functions as below:

  1. Setting up new AIIMS.
  2. Upgradation of government medical colleges
