World’s tallest and longest glass bridge opens in China

China has opened World’s tallest and longest glass bridge for public to see and feel the experience of walking on a bridge with glass floor through which one can look down. The bridge was opened on this Sunday. Below are the specifications and other related details of the World’s longest and tallest bridge.

Specifications of World Longest and Tallest Bridge

Talking about height and width of the China’s bridge, it is 488 meters long and 2 meters wider and hangs 218 meters above the floor of Valley which is equal to a 66 story building. It connects two steep cliffs in the Hongyagu Scenic Area in Pingshan county of Shijiazhuang, Hebei province.

Total 1,077 panes of transparent glass have been used to construct the highest glass bridge of world. The thickness of each pane is about 4 Centimetre and the total weight is 70 metric tons. The whole bridge was constructed in a record time of one year and six months (18 months) as per the reports.

Capacity of Glass Bridge Made by China

The bridge is strong enough to withstand against high velocity winds. Interesting fact about the bridge is that it is designed in such a way that it shakes a little bit when visitors reach in the middle of it. The maximum capacity of the bridge, is 2,000 people based on its design but for safety reasons only 500 people may be allowed at one time to cross the bridge as per the reports.

China has been constructing such kinds of glass bridges to attract more number of tourists and to make new records. A number of glass floor bridges have been constructed in China lately. The earlier record of longest bridge was also held by China which was a 430 meter long and 6 meter wide bridge in Grand Canyon Scenic Area in Zhangjiajie, Hunan province.
