India Celebrates National Youth Day on 12 January

National Youth Day

India is celebrating National Youth Day today i.e on 12-01-2020. The Yuva Diwas or Youth day is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. The aim of the day is to propagate the philosophy and the ideals given by Swami Vivekananda. Yuva Diwas (Youth Day) also creates awareness among youth about their rights in the country.

National Youth Day 2020 Theme

This year National Youth Day 2020 theme is “Channelizing Youth Power for Nation Building”. It means to inspiring youth to get educated and behave well.

History

The day is celebrated on the birth day of Swami Vivekananda. Indian government declared it in 1984. The youth Day is being celebrated since 12 January, 1985. Since the day life and ideas of the Swami Vivekananda are shared among youth to motivate then for better future of country. Various events are organized on the youth day. Events includes parade, recitations, songs, speech on Swami Vivekananda, conventions, essay-writing competition, seminar, etc.

About Swami Vivekananda

Swami Vivekananda was born on 12 January 1863. He was born into an aristocratic Bengali Kayastha family of Calcutta. His father name was Vishwanath Datta who was an attorney at Calcutta High Court. His earlier name was Narendranath Datta. He was inclined towards spirituality. He was interested in spirituality at young age. Vivekananda has knowledge of Hindu scriptures, including the Vedas, the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, the Ramayana, the Mahabharata and the Puranas. Swami Vivekananda in 1893, represented India in the first Parliament of Religion in Chicago in 1893. Ramakrishna Mission was also established by him. Vivekananda conducted various public and private lectures and classes, disseminating tenets of Hindu philosophy in countries like the United States, England and Europe. Vivekananda is regarded as a patriotic saint, and his birthday is celebrated as National Youth Day.

One of the famous saying of Swami Vivekananda for youth is that the accurate road to success is to pursue a challenge with utmost dedication. He died on 4 July 1902.
