IPL Rights goes to Star India for Next Five Years in Rs 16,347.50 crore

Star India has won the IPL rights for next five years that is from 2018 to 2022 in Rs 16,347.50 crore. The rights include for both TV and digital broadcast worldwide.

Earlier Sony was having the rights of IPL broadcasting on TV for ten years. The ten years term has ended now so BCCI decided to resale broadcasting rights and sent invitations to total 24 companies to bid for the broadcast and digital rights in the Indian subcontinent and also on global markets for the next five years. However out of 24 companies only 14 companies shown their interest in bidding and even companies like Yahoo, Amazon and ESPN digital didn’t participated in bidding.

After a long technical evaluation, Rahul Johri CEO of BCCI announced that only Star and Sony were eligible for broadcast rights. Other candidates like Times Internet, Reliance Jio, Airtel and Facebook could rightfully bid for digital acquisition. However, later it was revealed that Star had launched a consolidated bid and was declared winner.

India to Host Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in 2019

Commonwealth (Youth, Junior and Senior) Weightlifting Championship’s 2019 edition will be hosted by India. The allotment decision was made by Executive Board of Commonwealth Weightlifting Federation.

Current 2017 edition is going on at the Gold Coast, Australia and Saikhom Mirabai Chanu (85kg) and K Sanjita Chanu (53kg) of India have won gold medals at the championship in their respective categories.

Virat Kohli became Fastest to Score 15000 International Runs

Indian cricket team captain and batsman Virat Kohli added one more record to his name in the last and only T20 match played against Srilanka at Colombo. Kohli became the fastest batsman to reach 15,000 international runs. Kohli has done this magic in just 304 matches. He is also the first batsman to score runs at an average above 50.

Below are the records that Kohli made:

  1. Became 33rd cricket player to score 15,000 runs in international cricket.
  2. Kohli is seventh Indian batsman to reach the milestone of 15,000 international runs.
  3. First to score 15000 runs with the average of above 50.
  4. He is the third highest run scorer in T20s.
  5. After Dilshan, Eoin Morgan and Shahid Afridi, Kohli is the fourth player to score 50 in his 50th Twenty-Twenty match.
