Taj Mahal Palace Mumbai – first Indian building to get trademark

The Taj Mahal Palace of Mumbai became the first Indian building to get trademark. With this, it has been added to small elite club of trademarked properties like Empire State Building New York, The Eiffel Tower in Paris and Sydney Opera House.

Now if anybody wants to use the pictures of Taj Mahal Palace for commercial purpose, he or she can use it by paying license fee to the company.

This is for the first time in India that any building has got trademarked.

About Taj Mahal Palace:

The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel is one of the oldest palace of the country. It was established in 1903 and was opened to guests for the first time on 16 December,1903. It was the first hotel of India to have facilities like electricity, American fans, German elevators, Turkish baths and English butlers. It was also India’s first restaurant to be open all the days, first to have licensed bar and discotheque.

The hotel was attacked by Lashkar-e-Taiba on 26 November,2008 and damage was done to its building mainly roof. The battle took place for three days. At the time of attack total 450 people were inside and at least 31 people died.

Many famous personalities have stayed in the Palace like Hilary Clinton, Barack Obama.
