Union Cabinet approves Dentists (Amendment) Bill, 2017

The Union Cabinet today gave approval for presentation of the Dentists (Amendment) Bill, 2017 in Parliament, subject to alteration of drafting, as might be considered as vital by the Legislative Department by correcting the Dentists Act, 1948.

As indicated by an official explanation, the clauses being amended relate to specific modifications in the provisions of the Dentists Act, 1948, which include participation of the Dental Council of India under clause (f) of Section 3 and enrolment of State and Joint State Dental Councils under provision (b) of Section 21 and provision (b) of Section 23 of the Act.

According to the current Act, it was required to have the representation of dental practitioners registered in Part B as Central Government candidates in the Dental Council of India and the election of either four or two members from Part B to the State/Joint State Dental Councils. Sambamurthy appointed NPCI New Interim chairman
