Red beacons banned on VIP vehicles, excepting emergency services

From first of May, the Union Cabinet has banned the use of red beacons atop vehicles of dignitaries and government officials, including the PM and the President.

From 1st May, 2017, only the blue flashers will be allowed on vehicles belonging to the fire service, , army and ambulances, police, to ensure passage through traffic.

The decision to ban was taken at the meeting chaired by PM Narendra Modi. This decision will be extended to the vice-president, the chief justice of India, Union ministers, chief ministers, state cabinet ministers, bureaucrats and judges of the high court and Supreme Court.

One month before UP CM Yogi Adityanath and CM of Punjab Amarinder Singh – decided to stop the use of the red beacon on their official cars.
