Niru Chadha became the first Indian women Member of ITLOS

International law expert Niru Chadha became the first women Member of ITLOS (International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea) belonging to India. She will be having a nine years term. The information was given by foreign ministry spokesman Mr. Gopal Bagale through a tweet.

Niru chadha got 120 votes in the ITLOS election on Wednesday and defeated Indonesia, Lebanon and Thailand candidates who secured 58,60 and 86 votes respectively. There were total seven seats for which elections were held and Thailand got another seat in the Asia Pacific Group.

ILTOS:
ILTOS is United Nation’s unit which takes decisions on laws related to see. Niru Chadha is a famous lawyers. She was also the first woman chief legal advisor of external affairs ministry.
