New e-way bill system comes into force for smooth inter-state movement of goods

Government is all set to introduce a new e-way bill system to bring uniformity across the states for smooth inter-state movement of goods. Earlier the trial of fifteen days e-way bill system has ended on 31 January, 2018. Now the government has implement the system nationwide.

Working

As per the new e-way bill system, all transporters will require a system-generated bill to carry goods from one place to another. This will make the whole system uniform and will ensure that goods can be transferred with speed. These bills can also be generated through GSTN portal.

As per the department, the e-way bill system is capable of producing around 50 lakhs e-way bills on daily basis.

E-way bill system has been developed by Indian government’s science and technology center: National Informatics Centre (NIC) and GSTN is the owner of this software. All software activities like running and operating will be done by NIC.

E-way bill Purpose

Apart from providing facility of speedy transfer of goods the system can also be used to track movement of goods and check tax evasion.

Validity of E-way Bill

The validity will depend upon the distance travelled by goods. if the distance is less than 100 Km, one day validity will be provided. For every 100 Km, one day validity per hundred Km will be provided.
