Mirabai Chanu Wins First Gold Medal for India at Commonwealth Games 2018

After P Gururaja wining silver in Commonwealth Games 2018, world champion Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won first gold medal for India at CWG 2018 with a record breaking performance. Mirabai shown remarkable performance in 48Kg weight category.

Mirabai Chanu Wins first gold for IndiaIn her all three attempts Chanu pulled off clean lifts of 80kg, 84kg and 86kg. After that she successfully lifted weights double of her body in all three attempts (103kg, 107kg and 110kg). With this she claimed clean and jerk as well as the overall Games record.

Saikhom Mirabai Chanu

Mirabai Chanu is female Indian Weightlifter from Manipur state of India. She was born on 8 August 1994. She recently received Padma Shri for her wonderful performances for India. Before winning Gold medal for India at Commonwealth Games 2018, she has won:-

  • Gold medal at World Weightlifting Championships 2017 at Anaheim , United States in 48 kg weight category.
  • Won Silver Medal in 48KG category at 2014 Commonwealth Games at Glasgow.

Mirabai now holds the record of Snatch and clean and jurk in Commonwealth Games.
