Kochi Metro First government owned company to give employment to transgenders

Kochi metro has taken a great decision to give employment to transgenders in various departments based on their qualifications. This is a appreciable decision at the time when transgender are facing high amount of oppression in the society. This is the first time any of the company owned by government has appointed members from this discriminant community.

The total number of transgender worker to be appointed is 23 out of 530 Kudumbasree workers to be appointed at 11 stations in Kochi Metro. The transgender worker who are having better education will be appointed at higher posts such as ticket counters and customer relations. Rest will be deputed for parking, gardening, housekeeping and to coach depot canteen.

How the selection was made?
A written test was conducted followed by the interview. Training is also imparted for the worker to improve their soft and technical skills.

More about Kochi Metro Station:

It is an under construction metro station for Kochi. Its first phase of total 13.4 Km length from Aluva to Palarivattom is ready and will be open in this month(May,2017). Approximately US$800 Million have been spent on its first phase. The second phase from Palarivattom to Maharaja’s College covering 5kms will be operational from August 2017.
