Indian Military ranked Fourth in World by Global Firepower

Global Firepower ranked has placed Indian military at fourth place in terms of global military prowess. The global index was prepared by considering 133 countries. India is only behind of US, Russia and China in the list. Indian neighbour Pakistan is placed at 13th place in Global Firepower (GFP) list 2017.

India has managed to keep its position in the top 5 of the list while Pakistan could manage to get in top 15. Other major powers among top ten military powers in the world on the GFP list are France, the UK, Japan, Turkey and Germany.

Global Firepower Ranking Methodology

The ranking has been prepared based on 50 parameters out of which military resources, natural resources, industry and geographical features and available manpower are the major ones. It was India’s number of armed forces personnel that helped India to get fourth place in Global Firepower ranking 2017. India has total 4,207,250 armed personnel.

According to Global Firepower, its formula used for assessment is like that it is easy to compare smaller, though more technologically-advanced, nations with larger but less developed countries. It also added modifiers (in the form of bonuses and penalties) to furthermore refine the list.

Indian Military and China Military Comparison

As per the GFP’s report India is ahead of China in comparison of total armed personnel. India has 4,207,250 whereas China has 3,712,500 armed personnel. But China taken the lead as because it has more active personnel (2,260,000) when compared to India. India has 1,362,500 active personnel. Defence Budget was another major point of consideration under which India is way behind China. As per the statistics, China defence budget allocation is three times more of what India has set for its military.

Indian Military and Pakistan Comparison

Comparing India with Pakistan, India is well ahead of its neighbour in all aspects except, number of attack helicopters, self-propelled artillery and waterway coverage.
