Milkha Singh India’s sprint legend has been appointed as goodwill ambassador for physical activities by WHO in South-East Asia Region. The aim is to promote the physical activities among people of every age in the South-East Asia Region with the support of Milkha Singh.
The appointment of Milkha Singh was done by Regional Director of WHO for South-East Asia region, Poonam Khetrapal Singh.
People have almost no or very less physical activities in their daily life. It is because of the kind of lifestyle people adopting today. Serious health issues like heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and cancer are arising among people and only regular exercise can reduce the risks of all such diseases to happen.
As per the reports in South-East Asia Region, 70% of boys , 8% girls and almost thirty three percent of adults have very less physical activities or insufficient activities which is an alarming situation.
WHO recommends regarding physical Workout:
As per WHO recommendations, children need to perform physical activities for at least 60 minutes on daily basis whereas an adult should do it 150 minutes on per week basis in order to stay safe away from any of the above said common disease. The Importance of physical exercise is even more for people 65 years of age and above.

Former Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu on 11 August, 2017 became 13th vice president of India. President Ram Nath Kovind administered oath of office to him at a special function which was organized specially for Naidu’s oath Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan. From now, he will hold the position of Vice President of India for the next five years. He became Vice President after longest served vice president Hamid Ansari. The second term was completed this month.
Mr. Venkaiah Naidu secured 516 votes and defeated candidate of opposition Gopal Krishan Gandhi by a margin of 272 votes. With this win, BJP now has all their favourite leaders at the top three senior positions of the country which are President, Vice President and Prime Minister of India.
By taking the charge he became Ex-officio Chairman of Rajaya Sabha as per the rules. It was the last day of the parliament session, so the session of parliament was ended with Venkaiah Naidu’s leadership.
M Venkaiah Naidu was born at Chavatapalem situated in Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore district on July 1, 1949. He is a law graduate with specialisation in international law from Andhra University at Vishakhapatnam. He was very much influenced by RSS and joined RSS as swayamsevak and BJP supported organization ABVP when he was in his college days. He came to spotlight first when famous Jai Andhra movement in 1972 happened. He also majorly contributed in Jayaprakash Narayan Chhatra Sangharsh Samiti.
Naidu’s Political Career:
Venkaiah Naidu was national president of BJP during 2002-2004.
He was Union Cabinet Minister for Rural Development when Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee was Prime minister of India.
Before being elected as Vice president of India, M Venkaiah Naidu was holding important departments in Union Cabinet. He was minister of Urban housing and development, Parliamentary affairs and information and Broadcasting.
Justice Deepak Misra has been appointed as new Chief Justice of India by President Ram Nath Kovind. He will be next CJI and will take charge after Current Chief Justice of India JS Khehar. He is the 45th person to be appointed at this higher most position in Supreme Court. Currently he is the senior most Judge of Supreme court so has been appointed to this position.
Deepak Mishra will hold this position for 13 months and his tenure will be completed in October 2018. He is the third person from Odisha to be appointed at this position in the Apex Court. Earlier two Justices were Ranganath Misra and GB Pattanaik.

Mishra was born on October 3, 1953. He is nephew of Ranganath Misra who was Chief Justice of India during September 1990 to November 1991. Deepak Mishra became an advocate in 1977 and practised in many areas like constitutional, civil, criminal, revenue, service and sales tax matters in the Orissa High Court and Tribunals. Then he was selected for High Court Bench.
He became an additional judge of Orissa High Court in January 1996 and later on in March 1997 he became a permanent judge of Madhya Pradesh High Court. He has hold the positions of Chief Justice at High courts of Patna and Delhi. Then after that he was promoted to the post of Judge of Supreme Court.

Economist Dr. Rajeev kumar has been selected as new vice chairman of NITI Ayog. His name was announced after earlier Vice Chairman Arvind Pangadhia announced on 31 August that he is leaving the post of vice chairman and is going back to Columbia University.
Along with Dr. Kumar, Dr. Vinod Paul has also been selected as a member of NITI Ayog. Dr. Paul is a Child Specialist in AIIMS.
About Dr. Rajeev Kumar:
Kumar has done DPhill in economics from Oxford University and have done PHD from Lucknow University. He is a Senior Research fellow at CPR (Centre for Policy Research).
He has written many books on Indian Economy and India’s National Security. Earlier in his career, he has also provided his services as Secretary General of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). Kumar has also served in Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER) as department’s Chief Executive and Director, Chief Economist at CII(Confederation of Indian Industries), Worked at Asian Development Bank and at ministry of finance on various positions.
Kumar is also the member of various international and national Organizations like King Abdulla petroleum studies and research center Riyadh, Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and Asia , State Bank of India and Indian Foreign Trade Institute.
Niti Ayog:(History): NITI Ayog is Indian government’s major think tank which was formed by passing a resolution by Union Cabinet on January 1, 2015. It replaced earlier Planning Commission which was following top-down approach and was functioning from 1950s. So, there was a need of a new system and that is why NITI Ayog was formed to serve Indian people in a better way.
Members of NITI Ayog: As far as members are concerned NITI Ayog consists of Chairman, Vice Chairman, Chief Executive officer and members. At present NITI Ayog has Prime Minister Narendra Modi as Chairman, Mr Amitabh Kant working as Chief Executive Officer and has three full time members Prof. Ramesh Chand, Shri V.K. Saraswat, Shri Bibek Debroy respectively.
Functions of NITI Ayog: As mentioned above it is the main think tank of Government of India which gives directions and inputs on various policies. It also helps center and states by providing them with required and relevant technical advice.
The Ayog consists mainly of two parts depending upon its functioning-
1. Team India Hub: This part ensures proper engagement of states and Center Government.
2. Knowledge and Innovation Hub: It works on Capabilities of NITI Ayog.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi became interim prime minister of Pakistan. He was selected by National Assembly through voting which was done on Tuesday and was confirmed winner by getting 221 votes. There was need of new Prime minister for Pakistan after the disqualification of Nawaz Sharif from the post. He was declared ineligible by Supreme Court after the allegations were proved on him in Panama Papers Scandal.
The other contestants were – Pakistan People Party’s Naveed Qamar (got 47 votes), From Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party Sheikh Rashid Ahmed got 33 whereas Sahibzada Tariqullah from Jamaat-e-Islami’s party could only get four votes.
